Empowering Budding Scientists and Science Communicators Through Meaningful Changes to The Educational Landscape

Projects

Investigating the Extent to Which Engagement With Science Communication Impacts Students' Science Identity, Science Self-Efficacy, and Learning

Science Identity and Self-Efficacy positively affect students' experience, positively impact graduation rates, and increase their intent to pursue advanced degrees. We investigate how engagement in science communication affects these outcomes.

Enabling Technology to Assess Students' Stress in the STEM Fields

Stress and anxiety levels are higher in STEM students than in the general population. We work to enable technological advances to better assess stress in real-time by measuring physiological markers.

Examining undergraduate students' empathy skills while communicating science

A Plethora of reasons contributes to scientific distrust in marginalized communities, resulting in worse healthcare outcomes. Empathetic communication, aligned with community values, may help. We aim to build empathy skills in undergraduate students.

Assessing Students’ Intention to Pursue Microbiology Career in Industry Following a Food Microbiology CURE

Course-based Undergraduate Research Experiences (CUREs) positively impact students. Most microbiology CUREs focus on clinically relevant topics. We assess changes in attitudes towards industry microbiology careers following a food microbiology CURE.
